Tax Credit Overpayment Dispute
Question: I just got Tax credit overpayment demand for 1665£ but I always reporter all changes in time! Please Help!!?
I never got any letter about this outstanding amount and now I got on my doorstep Dept Pursuit Officer from HM Revenue&Customs with the letter. He advised me to dispute this is if I disagree, which I will do as I always reported all changes in time. What is my chance to overturn this claim? How best to deal further is my claim turned down? Please help !!!
Answer: Hiya I currently work on tax credits and overpayments happen for so many different reasons. Sometimes it could be due to informing us of a late change or increase in income or something else which needs further investigation. What your better doing is phoning the helpline to find out why first of all the overpayment happened then see what your options are from there. The overpayment might be able to be cleared if some information has not been updated correctly. If the overpayment is something you do not agree with your better to dispute the overpayment. I hope this helps and you get the situation sorted out. My experience of tax credits overpayments that it is never black or white!! Good luck!!

Tax Credit Overpayment

Question: has anyone had an overpayment on their tax credits,if so what happened and did u have 2 pay it back?
Answer: Because hubby and I are self employed and they give us our tax credit on what they think we will make next year based on what we made this year, we got hit pretty hard. We made a rubbish profit a couple of years ago so last year they gave us some money. We then made a good profit last year and because we did they demanded all the money back that they had given us. Because this year’s is based on the good profit we made last year, we get nothing. So we are paying it all back in monthly installments.
If we make a rubbish profit this year, then theoretically they owe me for what they haven’t given me plus what they assume I will make next year. But I daren’t spend it in case they demand it all back the year after!!It’s all so complicated and a totally stupid system, especially for the self employed.
