Working of a Car Insurance Calculator

A car insurance calculator (ref: http://www.economywatch.com/insurance/auto/car-insurance-calculator.html ) uses personal information to calculate a rough estimate of what an insurance policy might cost to an individual. A calculator needs the following details to calculate the premium:

Place of residence: An individual living in a metro city is more prone to road accidents. Thus, s/he will be charged a higher premium than those who are living in a small town.

Age and Gender: Insurance companies believe that a person becomes more cautious in his driving as he ages. Thus, people aged above a certain limit may be offered discounts. Similarly, companies offer discounts to women drivers as they are perceived to be more cautious drivers than their male counterparts.

Driving record of an insurance seeker: An insurance company also determines the risk factor of an individual from his past driving history. Insurance companies charges higher premiums from individuals with a previous record of accidents and breaking traffic rules. In extreme cases, the companies can also refuse to accept the application of the insurance seeker.

Make and model of the car: These details help insurance companies determine the current market value of the car to be insured. The lower the market value of a car, the lower will be the premium charged.

A car insurance calculator may also prompt you to input miscellaneous information such as the frequency of the drive to calculate the premium.

The financial act of 1965 first saw the introduction of corporate income tax and hence by separated the tax liabilities of a company and its shareholders. The system is called Classical System. And under it the tax is levied at the point of business entity when profits are withdrawn from it, usually done by deduction at source (withholding tax).

Corporate tax is charged annually for each financial year. Imputation Act was introduced by modifying Corporation Tax from 1st April 1973. Under it, the company is charged on all its profits- distributed and undistributed. The income tax in this case is not deducted at source from dividends paid to shareholders. But, in recent times this advance Corporation Tax was abolished with its effect for distributions made on or after 6 April 1999. A reduced version of the imputation system remains still with the continuation of a tax credit.

What does this mean?
My parents and sister are letting me borrow money for the down payment for the house.
Does that apply to me?

But I’m purchasing it under my name.

Am i eligible still?

Energy Credits 2008

Energy Credits 2008

Question: Did we lose “GREEN” tax deductions in 2008?

I was told by my tax preparer that Bush invalidated all the Energy savings credits before leaving office. Therefore, she could not deduct the $5500 i spent for new windows & new Air-conditioning unit. (a fairly involved affair since i live in a 1-bdrm condo, top/3rd floor)
From where i’m sitting it is inconceivable that someone would take away these credits. Is it really true????

Answer: The energy credits ended with the 2007 tax year. Bush didn’t invalidate them, they just were set to expire like many tax credits do. (Congress makes the tax law, not the president) Congress and Obama renewed the credits for 2009 as part of the massive bail out. If the economy wasn’t down the tube, the credits probably wouldn’t have been renewed.

As for the new windows and new A/C, only the new windows would have helped. A/C is not a qualifying energy credit. The purchase price of the windows would have been reduced to $2,000 and then the credit would have been 10% of that, for a maximum credit of $200. This credit would have been a non refundable credit.

Sorry that you missed out on the $200. If it makes you feel any better, I missed out on the $8,000 new home purchase rebate by 1 month.
