College Tax Credit Stimulus
Question: I got screwed out of my stimulus because I am over 17 make over 3k but I’m claimed from my parents.?
My parents claimed me while I am in college to try to get a tax break…I am 21 years old have my own home which I have a mortgage for…I go to school 20 credit hours in college and work 42 hours full time job and make over 3k per year. I got screwed out of my Stimulus when college kids trying to save for their tuition and still try to have a life should get this money!! I work hard!!
I am on good terms with my parents. And well I mean my parents did pay for everything when I was a child and middle school and until I was old enough to get a job … so I think I would feel guilty to ask for it ya know??
And saying my parents did it for a tax break sounds bad… I didn’t mean it like they are swindlers. Most people claim their children through college so its not like a “tax break” as I called it.Answer: The parents do NOT get any extra for a college kid on their stimulus because you don’t get it for dependents over 17. So where does these kids 300.00 go? The parents get a break on their actual taxes but nothing extra on their stimulus.

Answer: I’m sure not going to expect anything. I am retired military and drawing a pension. I’ve been hounded to file for the stimulus rebate for 2 months. I manage ok on my pension even though some months get a bit tight.
I didn’t file for the stimulus rebate and i’m not going to ask for a damn thing…
Future generations of Americans our Grand Children and even their great grand children are going to be paying through the teeth for all this ridiculous spending that’s going on.
Add to your list the illegals who Obama will allow access to draw social security without contributing.
I visited Obama’s website. He has a tax calculator on his site. I entered my pension income and it says i’ll pay $500 dollars less on my pension than i would under mccain’s plan. Under the current tax structure I don’t have to pay taxes and wouldn’t under McCain’s plan either. So I wonder how Obama is doing the math.
I voted last friday for John McCain.

Tax Credits For Students

Question: What is the student credit TAX $2500?
Hi
I am a student my collage tuition was about 2100 and financial Aid paid about 2000, how do I know if I’m qualified for the 2500 Credit Tax?
thanks
Answer: You don’t include tuition costs paid by grants/scholarships; however, you can include student loans and out-of-pocket tuition paid. The credit offsets your tax liability. If you don’t have any tax liability, the 40% of the credit is refundable.
If you only paid $100 in tuition and had no student loans, then you could receive $40 back (assuming you have no tax liability).
If you had $10,000 in student loans and paid $100, then you would use the maximum $2,500 for the credit. This would give you a refund of $1,000 (assuming you have no tax liability).

Tuition Tax Credit Stimulus

Question: Why does my $225,000 + bonus annual income disqualify me from the stimulus bill tax benefits?
I am a head of household single parent. I don’t get the $400 tax credit, or the car purchase sales tax deduction or the tax credit on my son’s college tuition. Was I a fool to work hard and pay my own way through college to get a chemistry degree, a law degree and then keep working hard all these years?
Answer: yup pretty much. You should have been like my dad who lays around getting disability. Hey, thanks for paying for my college hahaha.

Student Tax Credits

Question: What tax credits can a low-income student take?
My gf only worked enough last year that she made $350 for the whole year, she has gotten extra student loans so that she could pay for rent and vehicle, etc. Besides lifetime learning, hope credit, and interest deductions, is there other ways to get credits – i.e. for low income, or can her bills be counted somehow towards these ?
Answer: If she’s at least age 25, she’s probably eligible for an Earned Income Credit (EIC) of $29 – if she’s under 25 she can’t get that.
With income that low, the credits and deductions you mention won’t save her anything. She won’t owe any tax, so unless she’s eligible for EIC, the only refund she could get would be anything that was withheld for federal income tax.
