Working Tax Family Credits

Question: How many hours does a couple have to work to claim working tax credits?
I was told by the jobcentre yesterday that at least one person from a couple has to work 24 hours in a week to get working tax credits, but she wasnt sure. I have looked online and i can only see a 16 hour week requirement but i’m unsure wether thats for a one person family or not?
Anyone know?
Answer: if a single person then 16hours per week
if a joint claim then one person has to work at least 32hours per week.

10500 per annum
Answer: could be your age as well. Not knowing how old you are though I can’t say if that’s a reason. I was turned down because I’m under 25 (despite the fact that I turn 25 this Sunday doesn’t come into consideration). Try applying on line at the HMRC website. I’m on there all the time, simply because I work partly for customs and excise and have to get information. But it has all the terms and conditions on there. And if your circumstances don’t apply to their TCs, give them a call and find out why you have been turned down. I’m re-applying next week when I’ve reached their age limit.
Good luck.
