Geothermal Systems Tax Credit

Question: How do you go about claiming a geothermal tax credit on a new construction home?

Do you need to pay directly up front for the entire system, or can the builder cover the cost, and when you purchase the home would you then get the credit?
so if im hearing right i cant just get an itemized receipt from the builder and tie it into the house cost, i have to pay up front? the builder doesnt really seem to know much about it

Answer: The builder gets the credit and presumably passes it on to you as a price reduction.

Question: Why shouldn’t tire pressure be part of an energy policy?

It wouldn’t be the first public service announcement to become a policy. For example of past good advice to become policy:

“Buy a more efficient water heater and save money and gas”

Government now offers 300 dollar tax credits for people who buy a tankless water heater since they are the best.

“Add more insulation to your house to save on the heating bill.”

There have been many different government programs to reward business and residential that do this.

The government could require car manufactures to add a tire pressure sensor to every car. The technology is there. So why shouldn’t tire pressure and similar topics be considered a part of an energy policy discussion?
ATJ in order for Obama’s tire pressure remark to be true only a quarter of the vehicles on the road would have to have lower pressure.

Answer: Absolutely! The best way to solve the energy crisis is not the government doing some grand fix, it is everyone doing a little something.

If everyone drives a little less, makes sure tire pressure is where it should be, keeps their vehicle maintained, turns off one light, replaces a inefficient incandescent bulb with a compact florescent bulb and a million other little things, the US will use less oil and prices will go down.

If 100 Million people save only 1 ounce of fuel a day, that is 781,000 gallons per day.

NGN Daily: Oregon’s BETC Program

Federal Tax Credit Photovoltaic

When you’re graduating and suddenly feel overwhelmed by the dark fog of debt it’s time to take control and make the situation more manageable. One way to do that is to consolidate student loans.

When you consolidate multiple loans you are paying off the original amount you took out and obtaining one new source of funding. This allows you to start fresh with new terms and hopefully a lower interest rate.

How you go about this will largely be effected by whether you have private, government, or a mixture of student loans.

For private, or non-federal, funding your interest rate is probably undesirable on a number, if not all, of your loans. The good thing is that while in college you hopefully built up your financial history with credit cards, bills, and steady employment. If this is the case you are in a great consolidation position because you should be offered a lower rate.

If you are working with the federal government there are a number of advantages to consolidate student loans. You already have a low interest rate, but making one monthly payment is definitely one great reason. The government gives you a couple of different options to go with, but one great deal makes it so your payments adjust to your income level, and if you haven’t paid it off in 25 years the loan is forgiven.

If you have a mix of private and federal funding you probably do not want to consolidate them all together. As mentioned above, federal loans have much lower interest rates and the government will not consolidate privately sourced funds with your federal money. If you have multiples of either you will want to handle them separately.

It can be overwhelming to graduate and deal with all of this, but once you take control and figure out how you want to consolidate student loans the whole situation will feel much easier.
