Question: I misspelled the Last letters of my Last-name on my 2008 taxes.?

I misspelled the Last letters of my Last-name on my 2008 taxes and i just noticed it becuase i am amending my 2008 taxes ONLY for the first-time homebuyer credit. Should i correct my paperwork (Last-name) now or just leave it alone and sent it like that?

Answer: No Big Deal, unless it is the first four letters you misspelled.
IRS matches SS # and first 4 letters of last name, so it is NOT something they totally ignore.
With the amendment, YES, correct your name, to avoid future questions, problems. Since you’re filing an amendment, correct this, but if you weren’t amending, I’d let it pass.

Answer: Figure about 16 weeks if you included a copy of the HUD-1 settlement sheet as proof of purchase. Figure 18 to 20 weeks if you didn’t.
