Energy Audit Tax Credit

Energy Audit Tax Credit

Question: What are the major hidden items, loopholes, and drawbacks of the “Climate and Energy Bill”?

I’ve heard a lot of rumors, but I don’t really know. It just seems like this is the latest bill that everyone from Congress is getting pressure from Obama to pass without spending time to read first. I have heard that hydroelectric is excluded as a renewable energy source, people will perform “energy audits” on homes-hello 1984, jobs could move offshore due to the restrictions, and this will be another tax on people–except that credits will be given to low income consumers. With this, the healthcare bill, and other proposals, when do we run out of other people’s money to pay for this stuff? Does the bill really protect the environment?

Answer: Obama promised to help the poor and middle class. This energy bill raises the cost of energy. The least able to afford these price increases will suffer. I expect more people will be freezing in the future. It appears Obama is just another lying politician who sticks it to the poor, including a lot of Black Americans.

Tax Credit Stimulus 2009

Question: Is there any credit in the ’09 stimulus check for self employed people or just employees with less tax taken?

As I see it the 2009 stimulus is less money taken out for taxes of your paycheck each week. But, I’m self-employed with no employees. What do I get out of the deal? After all the “American Dream” of owning your own business must have some kind of credit, correct? Or, is what I get out of this deal the big shaft?

Answer: There will be a credit on the 2009 return that you will file next year ($400 if single/$800 if married).

Home Owners Tax Credit 6500

Question: If you owned my home, what would you do?

Here is the deal, i own a home in st.petersburg florida valued at around 200,000. I have owned the home for a little over 2 years now. The purchase price was 120,000. I pay the mortgage to the previous owner on a monthly basis of 689.00. It is a 30 year loan, at a fixed 6 % rate. In september, in order to keep up with my property and insurance taxes, i took out a home equity line of credit with bank of america. Right now, i have used about 6500.00 of the 25,000 limit(it is a 10 year HELOC). If you were in my position, what would you do?. Just keep paying on both these loans like i have been, or seek to refinance the entire amount, to pay off the previous owner, and the HELOC. Thank you for your time.
I did not need a bank, since the previous owner totally financed the 120,000 minus the 5,000 down payment.

Answer: I think you have the right idea by seeking to pay off both of the loans with one of your own….however, I do think that 689 is quite low and your new bank loan would be MUCH higher.
Is there any way you can have an apprasial done since that is quite a huge jump in value (80k) over the course of two years…..
Is there a reason that you decided NOT to finance with the bank in the first place?

New Home Buyer Credit In 2010

New Home Buyer Credit In 2010

Question: Do I qualify for first time home buyer tax credit (long-time resident)?

I purchased a home in 2002. I got married a week after the purchase, so the house was in my name only. My wife and I lived there for 6 years. We sold in 2008 and are now buying a new home in 2010. The statement on Form 5405 says, “You (and your spouse if married) previously owned and used the same main home as your main home for any 5-consecutive-year period……..” Technically my wife didn’t “own” our previous home. Does this disqualify us?
that makes no sense, so the government is penalizing us for being married to each other? I qualify as a long-time resident, she qualifies as a first time home-buyer. But because we married each other, we disqualify each other and get nothing? There must be some other interpretation of this law, because that is ridiculous.

Answer: Yes.

As your wife was not on the title for the previous home, you do not qualify for the $6500 credit. The representative from the IRS I spoke with confirmed this.

Also, as you owned a home in the previous three years, you and your wife also do not qualify for the $8000 credit if that was your next question.

Is repeat-buyer tax credit wimpy?

With the April 30 deadline to sign home purchase contracts for both the $8,000 first-time buyer credit and the $6,500 version looming, some real estate and building experts are concerned that fewer consumers may be motivated by the credits this spring than last fall. The $6,500 credit, in particular, appears to be generating relatively little buzz among shoppers. As Gloria J. Ruesch, a broker …
