Homeowner Credit Bill

Homeowner Credit Bill

Question: Once new homeowner credit is $15000 how do I get the additional amount over the $7500 I have already received?

What do I have to do in order to get the $15,000 new homeowner credit (if and when it passes) if I have already filed my return and am expecting the $7,500. Is there an amedment I have to accomplish or if the bill is approved will I automatically be sent the difference?

Answer: It’s an if, not a when, it passes. And it wouldn’t necessarily apply to you, would very likely only apply to purchases after it’s passed if it is. If it passes there would be instructions developed on how to claim it if you qualify.

Obama Education Tax Credit 2009

Obama Education Tax Credit 2009

Question: Higher Education Tax Credit Question?

OK…so I am a 2009 graduate from a 4 year institution. I paid for my 2009 spring semester in November 2008. My school sent my 1098-t form in January of 2009 which included that tuition payments of $6559.00 for fall 2008 and $6559.00 for my spring 2009 semester. After filing last year for both semester (total 13118.00) the federal government said I was allowed $754.00 for the education credit…this year with the Obama Higher Education Tax Credit, I would have gotten $1000.00 automatically for just the spring 2009 semester of $6559.00 and additional income back which would have totaled more than $2000.00…But because I filed previously for one semester a year ago I am only allowed about $600.00…its a weird predicament. Is it possible to amend my previous year tax return, send in the $754.00 to the IRS for the education credit and then file my 2009 portion for the one semester of $6559.00 to get back $2000.00 instead of $600.00 ??

Answer: Doesn’t work that way. You paid it in 2008, it’s not eligible to be used in 2009 for tuition credits.

Question: is there any point in me applying for the £500 maternity grant?

hi i was just wondering if any body out there had been awarded the maternity grant even though they were not on any benefits and were not classed as being on a low income,I am currently pregnant with my third child and was not able to claim the grant with my first two due to being awarded the basic family element of tax credits, but have worked out on the tax credit calculator that after the birth of my baby i should be awarded higher than basic family element and that’s after the baby element bonus, just wondered if any one else had been lucky enough to get the grant who was in the same situation as me?
thanks for the replys, think i will apply for it but after i have had the baby,so i can get tax credits reviewed too.

Answer: My wife didn’t qualify when she was pregnant as she wasn’t on benefits…even though she was on a low income.
You have to qualify for the higher element of child tax credit to qualify as well as benefits etc.
When the baby was born she applied again (as you automatically get the higher element of child tax credit with a new baby) and she qualified. She managed to buy all sorts of bits and pieces for the baby, it really helps.
You have until baby is 3 months old to apply. direct.gov has all the info.
Good luck
