Question: Gender Studies, what if you could opt out of paying taxes for certain government programs?

What if there were a little box you could check on your tax paperwork, indicating whether or not you wanted to support certain government initiatives w/ your tax $. Now if you choose NOT to support a given program, your family is NOT eligible to receive benefits administered through that program. So if you didn’t help fund Green Energy Credits, then if you spend $30k out of pocket renovating your home, you’re not eligible for any incentives because you opted out. whaddaya say? sound a little too free-market-y?
Answer: Ridiculous.
I think it’s perfectly appropriate for me, as a childless single person, pay taxes that go toward welfare and other programs to help poor mothers and children and that go toward providing educations. People benefit in countless ways from the betterment of society as a whole.

I was just wondering how long it is taking others to get back their checks after sending in the proper paperwork for the $8000.00 new Home Owners Tax Credit refund…We submitted our amended return and all paperwork the middle of August and was just curious how long it is taking others to get their money…Thank You…
I am not sure exactly what we included,,we had it done at H&R block, signed everything there at the office and what ever they put in the envelope, we stamped and mailed in that same day…
Answer: Figure about 16 weeks if you included a copy of the HUD-1 settlement sheet as proof of purchase. Figure 18 to 20 weeks if you didn’t.
