Claiming Tax Credits

Question: Can I Claim Working Tax Credits while still living at home?

Thanks to the credit crunch! I’m now due to change jobs, unfortunately I will no longer be full time and will be working 30 hours a week plus my wage will also reduce to about 12900 p.a. pr, although I’m still living with my parents who are both retired & claiming there pension, I still have to pay my own way so will i be entitled to claim Working Tax Credits & if so how much?

Answer: look on the website entitledto.co.uk there is a calculator there that will tell u if u can and if ur able to claim anything else even housing benefit and council tax benefit. its not possible to say how much as it depends on yr age and how many hours u work and how much u earn. there is also a calculator on the inland revene tax credit website that will tell u. ps if ur single and under 25 i dont think u can claim in case this answers yr question immediately. good luck.

Tax Credit Daycare

Question: Daycare deduct as business expense?

If one is self-employed and files a schedule C, can she deduct daycare/babysitting expenses to go to work 100% as a business expense? This would be instead of taking the day care tax credit. Also, then would she need to 1099 her daycare provider/babysitter in order to claim the business deduction?

Answer: While you won’t 1099 the provider, you will be giving them a W-10 to get their SSN so you can put it on form 2441. (UNLESS she does the work at your house, in which case YOU owe her a W-2 and need to file a schedule H to pay the payroll taxes.)

The IRS can then cross check to see that she reported the income on her tax return.
