Question: Should people get a tax credit if they ride public transportation?

whether they own a car or not, should people who use public transportation get a tax credit? Just currious with the whole, “GO GREEN” thing, and our dependency on oil.

I asked this in another catagory, but didn’t get many answers. I would really like to know what others think. thx!!

Question: Is there any way to claim the new US diesel car tax credit on a 2002 car I already own?

Thought it was worth a try to ask here!
The car was not purchased in 2002 — it was simply made in that year.
Just checked, diesels are on the list: http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=187546,00.html

Answer: The only way to claim an alternative fuel motor vehicle credit on an older vehicle is to PAY for a conversion (say to hydrogen fuel). The credit is no more than 50% of the cost.

If I buy a brand new car in 2009, what kind of tax break will I get? Is it alright if the car is a foreign brand (Acura)? If purchase it out of state will I still get the tax break? Any other important information?
