Question: Air conditioner tax credit?
I know there is a tax credit for energy efficient home improvements. Our heat went out last night and I’m comfortable with the idea that it needs to be replaced rather than repaired (we’ve nursed it along for the last few years while it has been minimally efficient). Anyways, I’m wondering if there is a way to get the tax credit on my 2009 taxes, even though I’ll be making the purchase in early January 2010. It just stinks that if it had gone out a week ago I could get the credit when I file my taxes in about a month, but because it went out today I’ll have to wait a year for the credit.
Thanks, I was hoping for a loophole that I knew was very unlikely. Oh well, I just hope Uncle Sam isn’t bankrupt in 2011 and I can get my credit then.Answer: No, the credit on your 2009 return is only for expenses incurred in 2009.
