Homebuyer Tax Credit Signed

Homebuyer Tax Credit Signed

Question: first-time homebuyer/married couple tax credit?

My gf and I recently “bought” a townhouse in Bay Area of california.
We have signed the purchase agreement, but have not closed on
the purchase (house won’t be done until June). I wonder if we will
still qualify for the federal tax credit – looks like if we can close by
june 30th this year, we will be ok? Furthermore, my girlfriend’s name
is on your parent’s house, and would that affect our eligibility as well?
Thanks in advance on any tips and answers.

Answer: Not sure about the deadline but if her name is on her parents house she may not qualify. I’m not sure if BOTH of you have to qualify for one of you to get it though. Maybe you could file seperately and you receive the credit and split it with her or however you work out your finances.

Home sales boost may not last

WASHINGTON — A now-expired homebuyer tax credit and low mortgage rates helped boost sales of previously occupied homes in April. The improvements aren’t likely to last.
