8000 Homeowner Credit

8000 Homeowner Credit

Question: When did the $8000 tax credit for first-time homeowners go into effect?

Are real estate prices a little higher because of it? So they would go down a little December 1 when it expires?

Answer: The $8,000 went into effect earlier this year. Some sources suggest that it has helped absorb a lot of the unsold inventory that was sitting on the market. If so, I would not expect prices to deflate much if anything since the market should return to equilibrium with enough demand to move available supply.
