Tax Credit Certification

Question: How to become a CPA?
I living in Pennsylvania and I want to work on becoming a CPA. I already have BS in secondary education – history, so I was told that I only needed 24 more credits in accounting and finance and then I can take the CPA test. After that I was told I would need experience. Does anyone know if this is true for PA? Also, these are the classes I have taken so far – this semester and last semsester – Business Law 1 and 2, Principles of Accounting, Financial and Managerial Accounting, Payroll and Tax Accounting, Principles of Finance, and Personal Finance.
If its true that those are all the classes I need, then I can test for my CPA sometime this fall. Now my second question is what kind of experience do I need and where do I look for a job without my CPA certification? Thanks!!
Answer: The requirements to take the exam in PA are:
1) Baccalaureate degree with at least 24 semester hours in accounting or finance.
2) If you have 150 total semester hours, the work experience requirement is reduced from 2 years to 1 year.
PLEASE contact your state board at 717-783-1404 to be sure you have the correct classes and hours to sit for the exam!
As for the experience, you just need work experience doing any form of accounting work. You can find a job in accounting at almost any company without a CPA. Also, I’m not positive about PA, but the work experience requirement can be fulfilled after passing the exam in most states. Again, call your board to be sure!
Finally, the best way to pass the exam is by using a CPA review course. The college classes will prepare you somewhat, but most people don’t pass without a review. Good luck!
