Question: claiming childcare costs from tax credits?
I have started a new job working 16 hrs a week. I called tax credits to tell them i am paying childcare for my 12 month old child. They told me that without a PAYE number i can not claim. I have been waiting 6 weeks for a payslip, the manager where i work has been on hols so been unable to give me the number. I called back to tell them this, they took my new employers full address, telephone number, my childminders details and registration number and said the forms would be in the post. Does this mean they are letting me claim without the PAYE number?
Answer: It sounds as if someone has got their wires crossed.
I’ve never been asked for a PAYE number, only National Insurance and when using a childminder I had to supply their registration number.
I think that your claim should be ok now.
