Question: How to get the $8000 tax credit on a short sale?
I am interested in purchasing a home that is listed as a short sale (in Camden Cty., NJ) It has been my understanding that short sales take some time to close. I am concerned that it will not close before the deadline of Dec. 2009. Is there a way around this, so that I can still qualify for the credit? How is the government handling this?…I’m sure it’s a common problem right now! (Sept. 2009) Thanks!
Answer: There is no possible way you will close in time.
If you want the credit you need to go with a conventional sale. Even then you are pushing the time.
